2023 World Congress of Teachers of the Korean War

The Korean War Legacy Foundation was pleased to partner with the Ministry of Veterans and Patriots Affairs and the Social Studies Educators Network of Canada for our annual World Congress of Teachers, 2023.  This event served to recognize the sacrifice of our Korean War veterans and the importance of teaching about the War’s legacy in our schools.

AP Human Geography Strategies

This interactive webinar will focus on review strategies that teachers can immediately use with their students using short in-class review sessions. There will also be also an interactive student-facing website that contains stimulus-based multiple choice questions and Free Response Questions with immediate feedback for students after completing the tasks. Teachers will share these free open source resources in the webinar and discuss the interactive student website that also contains one page “Student Summary Sheets”.

The World History Digital Education Foundation partnered with the National Council for the Social Studies to publish Korea’s Place in Teaching Social Studies. The curriculum book includes four modules that are each aligned with a different discipline of social studies including history, geography, economics, and civics. Participants in the conference clinic actively engaged in the activities and instructional materials that were developed using open source materials to teach about Korea using a case study approach.

Teaching About North Korea Webinar

In this engaging webinar, participants explored the current geopolitical situation in North Korea which continues to capture global headlines. The webinar will share current teaching resources connected to North Korea and offer lines of instructional thinking that can engage students. Featuring a scholar and nationally renowned teacher trainers, the four hour webinar will present ideas and instructional practices that can be applied to your classroom. The resources are easily adapted to students at any grade level and the webinar also will serve as a preview to even more detailed instructional resources focused on North Korea currently being developed by the WHDE.

2021 World Congress of Teachers of the Korean War (International)

The Korean War Legacy Foundation was honored to host the 2021 World Congress of Teachers of the Korean War to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the war. The conference will be a special online event on Tuesday, July 27th from 9:00am- 2:00pm Eastern Daylight Time and will include 100 history and social science teachers from 22 countries. The sessions will include special commemoration ceremonies, including special remarks from an MPVA Representative, a historical lecture on the war and its significance, training on an oral history library of veteran interviews, case studies of materials on the Korean War, and presentations on the unique contributions of UN Nations.

The Korean War Legacy Foundation was honored to host the 2021 World Congress of Teachers of the Korean War to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the war. AP Human Geography Series

This two-part webinar focused on reviewing for the spring AP Human Geography exam. In this virtual, interactive session, participants accessed teaching materials that could be implemented immediately to prepare students for the AP Exam. Participants had an opportunity to work with free, open source materials and adapt them to the needs of their students. These sessions included targeted review lessons and instructional strategies for teaching and reviewing analysis of population pyramids, cultural landscapes, and economic development including sectors.

The conference will be a special online event on Saturday, December 12th from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm Eastern Standard Time and will include 100 history and social science teachers from 22 countries. Athens Conference on the Korean War

In August 2019 the Korean War Legacy Foundation (KWLF) hosted a conference in Athens, Greece for over 50 international teachers that explored the Korean War, its legacy, and the pedagogical possibilities for teaching about the war. This conference was made possible through the generous support of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.

Korea in World History Conference

May, 2019 | New York, NY, USA

93 educators learned about the AP World History modules and how to incorporate the history of Korean within World History classrooms. Educators heard from honored guests, including Ambassador Hyo-Sung Park (Consul General of Korean Consulate in New York City), Moonkyoo Shin (Minister Counselor of the Republic of Korea, and Kiho Jang (Korea Foundation).

Korea in World History Conference

Over 80 educators joined world history methods experts and Asia scholars to learn more about Korea’s rich history. Participants explored best practices in World History pedagogy as well as new teaching modules on Korea that are perfect for the AP World classroom or any world history course. Participants received special consideration for the 2019 Seoul Visit program.

2018 Korea Research Trip

The Korean War Legacy Foundation brought full time teachers, social studies staff developers, and social studies supervisors together for the 2018 Korean research trip. In traveling to South Korea, fellows had a variety of experiences meant to showcase the challenges and outcomes of the Korean War, while also building an understanding about the legacy of the war including the simultaneous economic development and democratization of South Korea. Fellows were immersed in Korean history and culture as a way to better understand the contemporary country.
