Bio

Initially, in the Connecticut Army National Guard, following graduation from high school, Joseph George Lewerk (16 Nov 1927, Connecticut – 28 May 1966, Los Angeles, California) was presumably activated and deployed for federal service at the beginning of the Korean War. He completed his draft registration card on 16 Nov 1945. He was possibly located at Hill 222, just north of the Imjin River and above the Wyoming OPLR, from late 1950 through mid-1950.
Based on the only two photos the family has of Joseph associated with his time in the ROK and unverified family stories, Joseph may also have been present for occupation duty after World War II. One photo is of the Roman Catholic cathedral in Daegu, and the other (posted as the profile image with a fellow soldier named “Cope” to the right) is in front of a probable Japanese colonial era monument, also presumably in Daegu.
