The Korean War Legacy Foundation is honored to partner with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea to host the 2026 World Congress of Teachers in Washington, D.C. As part of the America 250 celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, this special international gathering will bring together dignitaries from the United States and the Republic of Korea, teachers from both nations, U.S. descendants of Korean War veterans, and Korean pre-service teachers to honor the service and sacrifice of Korean War veterans while exploring the enduring legacy of the war and its relevance in today’s classrooms.
The Minister and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, who will travel to Washington, D.C., with an official delegation from the Republic of Korea. Their participation underscores the importance of the U.S.–Republic of Korea alliance and the shared commitment of both nations to preserving the memory and legacy of Korean War veterans.
The World Congress serves as both a commemorative and educational experience, creating opportunities for dialogue, remembrance, and international collaboration. Through shared learning and cultural exchange, participants will deepen their understanding of the Korean War, reflect on the values of freedom, democracy, and service that connect the histories of both nations, and strengthen the enduring partnership between the United States and the Republic of Korea. This event is co-hosted and sponsored by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
Participants will experience:
- Visit to the Korean War Memorial
- Keynote speech by the Vice Minister of the MPVA
- Networking and collaboration with South Korean teachers and scholars
- Discussions on the importance of teaching the Korean War and preserving its legacy for future generations

Teacher Qualifications
- Must be a teacher in the United States who is currently teaching a course that could include instruction on the Korean War or its legacy.
- Demonstrate a desire to learn and teach about the Korean War and its legacy
- Are interested in continuing the work completed at the conference through future projects with the KWLF.
Registration
- A $50 registration fee is required upon acceptance.
Hotel Accomodations
Embassy Suites Alexandria, 1900 Diagonal Rd, Alexandria, VA 22314
- A single occupancy King hotel room will be provided from August 4th – 7th
- The hotel sits directly across the street from the King Street Metro Station and Alexandria Union Station, providing immediate access to Amtrak and the DC Metro.
- If you are driving, you are responsible for hotel parking at $20 per night. These expenses can be submitted as part of the travel reimbursement.
- When checking into the hotel, you must provide a credit card for incidental charges.
- The hotel is a 5-10 minute taxi ride from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the hotel.
Accommodations and Meals
All meals will be provided as follows:
- August 4th: Arrival day, no meals provided
- August 5th: World Congress, breakfast, lunch and dinner provided
- August 6th: World Congress, breakfast, lunch and dinner provided
- August 7th: Departure day, breakfast provided
Travel Reimbursement
- Teachers will be reimbursed for up to $250 for travel expenses such as flights, hotel parking, mileage, trains etc. Receipts must be submitted and payments will be made after the conference.
Expectations
- Please bring a laptop.
- Dress for all events is summer business casual for all workshops.
- Participants are required to attend all meals and events.
