Bio

Sergeant Tefera Woldegiorgis was born in 1929 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He joined the Imperial Guard in 1946. He later married and became the patriarch of a large family, with fourteen children and several grandchildren. He has spent his later years residing in Assela, Southern Ethiopia.

Sergeant Tefera began his military service with the Ethiopian Imperial Guard in 1946, and by 1952, he was selected to join the Korean expedition. At 23 years old, he had already learned about the conflict the previous year, following the deployment of the first Kagnew Battalion. His own battalion commenced their mission in June 1952.

In June 1952, he fought in the fierce battle at Camel’s Head near the Hwacheon Reservoir in Korea. His battalion, the Fourth Kagnew, achieved victory, earning him recognition as a hero. After returning to Ethiopia, Sergeant Tefera continued his service to the nation until his retirement in the 1990s.
