Ronald Abey

Ronald Abey was born in Gore, Southland on 9 July 1927. He originally enlisted in the New Zealand Army for home service in 1943. He served as an Aircraftman 2nd class in the Royal New Zealand Air Force until the end of the war. He served for one and a half months in the RNZAF for one and a half months before enlisting in Kayforce. He departed for Korea on the 10th of December 1950 on the SS Ormonde. He landed in Pusan on the 31st of December 1950. While in Korea he served as a gunner with the Foxtroop 163 Bty. After a short time, he transferred to the position as a cook in the Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps.He departed Korea on the 2nd of July 1952. He was discharged from the Regular Force by purchase on the 28th of August 1952.
