Bio

Paul Winfred Ewert was born in Pierre, South Dakota, on January 16, 1924. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, which later became the U.S. Air Force. He became an instructor for LINK flight simulators and helped train pilots to fly planes for combat missions.

Though Paul was trained as an engineer, the outbreak of the Korean War created a need for pilots in the Air Force. He flew more than 30 combat missions over North Korea with the 19th Bombardment Wing (now designated as the 19th Airlift Wing) and the 28th Bomb Squadron. Over his 28-year military career, Paul also served as an airplane mechanic and flight engineer on B-29s, B-36s, and B-26s.
