Marcelino C. Nardo
Bio
Marcelino C. Nardo served in Korea as part of the forces from the Philippines. In 1950 he was called by the government to serve his country in the military, which ultimately meant serving in Korea from 1952-1953. He took part in the Battle of Christmas Hill. Among his primary duties was placing land mines. He remained in Korea following the truce. Marcelino Nardo is proud of the role in had in serving to try to unite the Korean Peninsula.

Dangers of Land Mines
Marcelino C. Nardo recalls being among the group of Filipino soldiers sent as an advance unit to Christmas Hill. He recalls arriving about 2:00 in the morning and seeing piles of dead bodies. He explains their main mission was to lay landmines to protect the area from further Chinese encroachment.

Challenges of Serving on the Front Lines
Marcelino C. Nardo recalls many difficulties of serving on the front lines. He remembers it was often hard to see where the enemy was and could only hear the sounds of incoming artillery fire. He shares the story of a friend being killed while trying to deliver water to the front line. He speaks frequently of the cold and the lack of equipment many encountered when facing Korea's cold winters.

Armistice Brought Happiness
Marcelino C. Nardo recalls the happiness felt with the agreement on the armistice. He notes that this agreement led to the evacuation of all things from the front lines to Pusan via railroad. His unit evacuated to an area controlled by the 24t Division of the U.S. Army.
