Bio

Born on August 18, 1932, Army Pfc. Louis N. Crosby answered his country’s call to service at just 18 years old, joining Company A, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. Serving with honor in the Korean War, Pfc. Crosby displayed remarkable courage and commitment beyond his years. On December 1, 1950, during fierce fighting near the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea, he was reported missing in action after his unit came under heavy enemy attack. He was presumed to have given his life in service to his nation, making the ultimate sacrifice at a very young age.
On July 27, 2018, following a summit between then- U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, North Korea turned over 55 boxes, which had been purported to contain the remains of American service members killed during the Korean War. His remains were repatriated during this summit. The remains arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, on Aug. 1, 2018, and were then sent to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency laboratory for identification. Louis Crosby’s remains were accounted for on April 21, 2020.
Crosby’s name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, alongside fellow service members still unaccounted for from the Korean War. With his return, a rosette will be placed beside his name, signifying that he has at last returned home. Pfc. Louis Nelson Crosby’s legacy endures as a true American hero—one who selflessly gave his life in defense of freedom, and whose sacrifice will never be forgotten.
