Bio

Joseph Forliano was born in 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the proud son of immigrant parents. Motivated by a desire for both opportunity and service, he enlisted in the United States Army, not only to secure three square meals a day, but to honor his country as a first-generation American.

While serving in Korea, Joe held the rank of Private First Class, managing a supply truck and bravely serving as a firefighter. Eager to join his brother in World War II, he was initially too young, but his determination led him to enlist in September 1946. Joe completed his first tour with an Honorable Discharge in January 1948, serving in Korea before the official outbreak of war. When conflict escalated, he was drafted back into service with the 101st Airborne Division in December 1950, once again earning an Honorable Discharge in November 1951. Through both tours, Joe’s commitment and adaptability stood out.

Joe was a remarkable man whose warmth, infectious laughter, and enduring smile left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Even years after his passing in 2005, his memory lives on in the hearts of family and friends. Deeply patriotic, Joe cherished the opportunities this country provided, and he took great pride in building a solid life as a sheet metal worker after his military service. He often spoke with deep fondness of his time in uniform and the lifelong friendships forged during his service.
