Jesse Sanchez Berain

Bio

Jesse Sanchez Berain was a former member of the United States military who served his country with distinction during the Korean War. He was born in 1928 and joined the United States Air Force right after graduating from high school in 1946. Due to his experience with the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) in high school, he was able to skip basic training and become a drill and physical training instructor at Lackland Air Force Base. When the Korean War broke out in 1950, he re-enlisted in the military with the U.S. Army. During the war, he spent a total of eighteen months stationed in Japan and close to Seoul in Korea, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant in just two years. After his service, he became a business owner and was an active supporter of the Farm Workers Movement in Twin Falls, Idaho.

War on the Korean Peninsula

Rifle Platoon Leader

Jesse Sanchez Berain discusses his role as a Rifle Platoon Leader and the tasks he handled. He mentions that he organized his men to scout both sides of the mountain for enemy activity by scheduling point men. He remembers that his platoon consisted of around forty soldiers, including a heavy weapons unit.
