Jack Droneburg

Bio

Jack W. Droneburg was born in Frederick, Maryland on October 13, 1928. He was working at a service station before being drafted on February 13, 1951. He arrived in Busan in February of 1952 and was stationed in Taegu with the 1st Cavalry Division as a Private First Class. He describes his daily life during the Korean War, including his fondness for Korean beer over American beer. He returned home from Korea in February 1953 and was discharged. After his discharge he married and worked at Fort Detrick.

Jack Droneburg describes his typical day and surroundings while stationed at Taegu. He explains that his day to day consisted of guard duty. He goes on to explain that the majority of the inhabitants of the compound were officers, Colonels and Generals. He recalls drinking a lot of beer and taking a particular liking to Korean beer over American beer.

Modern Korea

Jack Droneburg explains that though he has not returned to Korea, after reading "Korea Reborn" he feels great pride for the country and his efforts as a veteran. He goes on to describe his pride for South Korea who has succeeded in rebuilding a strong infrastructure and economy. He states his distrust for North Korea.

Military Experience Helped later in Life

Jack Droneburg explains that his time served in the military was beneficial in future endeavors. He explains that he later became a husband and father with responsibilities. He goes on to explain that he was favored as a veteran over those who did not serve when he was offered a job at Fort Detrick.
