Bio

Horace Palmer served from 1952 to 1953 with the United Kingdom’s 32nd Regiment, 74th Battery, famously known as “The Battle Axe Company.” The battle axe displayed in the image serves as the official insignia of the 74 Battery Royal Artillery, symbolizing the unit’s rich heritage. This distinguished nickname was earned in 1809, when the battery captured a French-held battle axe during the invasion of Martinique—a feat that continues to be commemorated. During his service, Palmer attained the rank of Lance Bombardier. Throughout the Korean War, the 32nd Regiment, 74th Battery, fulfilled a critical role as a medium artillery regiment. Rather than participating in front-line infantry combat, their primary objective was to deliver long-range indirect fire support, providing accurate and sustained artillery barrages to protect and advance allied positions.
