Bio

Ato Mohammud Gebre served as a Sergeant in the Ethiopian Army’s 2nd Battalion and took great pride in marching into the Korean War. A courageous soldier, he participated twice in the Korean conflict and also served in the Congo. The Kagnew Battalion, representing Ethiopia as the only African nation to send ground troops, was composed of men selected from Haile Selassie’s elite Imperial Bodyguard and named in honor of his father’s warhorse. Fighting alongside the U.S. 7th Infantry Division on the front lines, the Kagnew Battalion earned renown for its bravery during the battles of the Iron Triangle and Pork Chop Hill.
