Bio

Bruce Stephen Irick Sr. was born on October 11, 1931, in Florence, South Carolina, one of eight children of Carrie and Coy Irick. He later married Jean (Lane) Irick, and together they raised three children. As a student at McCleneghan High School, Bruce excelled in basketball and football. At 18, he was drafted into the Army and trained as a medic in Texas before deploying to Korea. Stationed in Busan for 14 months, and at other locations, Bruce and his company provided medical support wherever needed. After completing his service, Bruce used the GI Bill to attend the University of South Carolina, majoring in accounting. He went on to work several sales jobs before securing a position as Controller at Francis Marion College. His legacy endures on campus, where his name is inscribed on the statue of Francis Marion at the entrance.
