Sakariya Reslee

Bio

Sakariya Reslee was born on June 4, 1929 in Bangkok, Thailand and was one of six children. His formal schooling was interrupted as he reached the tenth grade due to having to relocate because of the Second World War. He enlisted in the Army and began his training which led him to Korea a short time later. Having learned nothing of the country in school, he volunteered to go to Korea so that he could gain experience. He was sent on the last rotation and was assigned to maintain the 38th Parallel. His first impression of Korea was seeing how hungry the people were and recalling how he felt moved to help them somehow. Having come to Korea after the Armistice, he never felt afraid and was glad to help the Korean people. He is glad to see the prosperity and development of today and credits the Korean people with loving their country well.
