Jerome Jerry Clement Olinger
Bio
Jerome “Jerry” Clement Olinger served as a non-commissioned officer (NCO) for the United States Army in charge of operating an anti-aircraft battery during his time in Korea. He was stationed as a commanding officer away from the front lines. His military experience was unusual, from basic training, where he witnessed a live performance by Spike Jones and went skeet shooting with his fellow soldiers. He learned a great deal from his time in the military, including mechanics, which later benefited his career.

Jerome Olinger shares some of his enjoyable experiences from officer training before the war. During the day, he fondly remembers shooting skeet (target shooting) until he ran out of shells, which only cost 25 cents. After the training sessions, the base provided entertainment in the evening, featuring famous musicians like Spike Jones, who performed shows for the troops in training. He recalls these day and night adventures with a smile.
