Gene Bill Davidson
Bio
Gene “Bill” Davidson was born in Glendale, California, on March 3, 1933, and graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1951. Since he was graduating and the draft was in effect, he began to pay attention to what was going on in Korea. Shortly after his nineteenth birthday, he received his draft notice. Before being drafted, he received training at a junior college in business machines and equipment. Little did he know this would predetermine his occupation in the war. He was assigned to the United States Army’s 101st Signal Battalion and eventually to the radio and messages company. Working with this company, his role was to receive messages off of the teletype and deliver the encrypted messages to the frontline. His experiences in Korea strengthened his commitment to his faith and the importance of one’s place in the world.

Delivery From the Commander
Gene Bill Davidson gives an account of how he eventually received his winter gear. Since he arrived during the spring, he shares he was equipped with summer gear. As it grew colder, he recalls the other soldiers receiving their winter clothing but he still lacked equipment. He describes making multiple requests for winter boots. After being caught in a blizzard and arriving back to the bunker with severe frostbite, he shares how he decided to take further action. In order to get the name of his Senator, he recalls how he decided to write to his mother. Eleven days later, he remembers pulling a message off of the teletype demanding resources for Gene Davidson. The next day, he remembers a helicopter landed with his size fourteen boots. He reveals that his mother wrote President Eisenhower a letter, and that is why he received his winter boots.

Finally Understood the Scripture
