Cengiz A. Turkogul

Bio

Cengiz A. Turkogul enlisted in the Turkish military and became an officer by 1948. When he learned that the military needed officers for Korea, he volunteered to join the first group sent there. Initially responsible for managing the ships, he soon transitioned to the role of supply officer. Arriving in Korea on July 6, 1953, he was instructed to be prepared for combat the following day. In 2010, he returned to South Korea leading a group of fifty men. His experiences in Korea paved the way for his career as a civil servant, university economist, and Ministry of Energy employee.

Be Prepared to Fight

Cengiz Turkogul first arrived in Busan, South Korea on July 6, 1953. He was given a uniform, canteen, blanket, and food. He was then told to be ready to fight. A train to him to the front and was there for the remainder of the war.

Leading Veterans back to Korea

Cengiz Turkogul led a group of veterans to return to Korea in 2010. He was very impressed with the growth of South Korea. When he first was in Korea he was astounded by the number of orphans and would take food to them. Now, those orphans have grown up and he loves to meet Korean people.

Trapped under a Cart

An explosion caused a cart to topple over, trapping Cengiz Turkogul beneath it. The sudden impact knocked him unconscious, putting him into a coma. He was then taken to the hospital to recover.
