Bio

Leonard O. Scott was born in Geddes, South Dakota, in 1926. As a young adult, he was drafted into the United States Army and completed basic training at Fort Polk. Leonard was assigned to H Company, 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division, 2nd Platoon, based out of Ardmore, Oklahoma. He served in Korea during the Korean War from December 1951 to June 1952.

Leonard rarely spoke about his wartime experiences, but his children fondly remember his story about a crooked front tooth; he would jokingly claim it was the result of catching bullets with his teeth in Korea, a tale his children believed for years. Leonard left the Army just shy of twenty years of service, retiring as a Sergeant First Class.

Leonard O. Scott passed away in 2013, and most of his memories of the war were laid to rest with him. We are grateful for his service and are honored to remember Mr. Scott.
