Bio

Arthur J. Melanson was born in Sackville, NB, on November 22, 1931, and passed away at the age of 86 in Cambridge, Ontario. Beloved husband of Jennie, Arthur was also a devoted father to Bruce, Gord, and Harold. As a proud Grandpa, he cherished Lindy, Bruce Jr., Gordy Jr., Jennifer, Jessica, Cody, Hailey, Joshua, and Amanda, along with 11 Great-grandchildren. Growing up in a large family, he shared his childhood with siblings Norman, Raymond, Albert, Yvonne, Janet, Donald, Alan, Lorry, Alyre, and Paula. His loving parents, Ernest and Leona, predeceased him.

Arthur’s dedication extended beyond family. He served during the Korean War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 121. Enlisting in the Canadian Army Special Forces on November 13, 1950, he served until his honorable discharge in April 1954. On March 8, 1951, Arthur completed 16 weeks of Infantry Recruit Basic Training at Valcartier, Quebec, before postings at Fort Lewis, Washington, and Korea.

In his later years, Arthur’s family and friends remember him as an easygoing man. He enjoyed the simple things in life: playing his guitar, building things, tossing horseshoes, and relaxing with friends at his camper.
