Bio

At just 17 years old, in January 1951, Mexican American Jesus Cantu Salinas was called to serve in the Korean War. Born in Northern Mexico, Jesus later migrated to California. While studying engineering at UCLA, he was drafted into military service. During his time in Korea, he was shot a second time—miraculously, a religious medal his mother had given him stopped the bullet, sparing his life. He served for two years, during which he was wounded, but after recovering, he courageously returned to the front lines.

After the war, Jesus returned to Los Angeles, completed his studies, and married. Following a divorce, he moved back to Mexico, settling in Monterrey. There, he remarried, started a family, and founded a successful construction company. After many years of hard work, he retired but continues to live in Monterrey.

Jesus is a founding member of the Association of Mexican Veterans of the Korean War, established in 2021. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family, he enjoys music and movies. Recently, he was awarded the Apostle of Peace Medal and honored by Korean military and diplomatic representatives, who visited to personally express their gratitude for his service.
